The Main Theories Behind UFOs & UAPs: My Personal Perspective
As someone who believes in a supreme Creator and was raised in Christian culture, I’ve spent decades thinking about the UFO/UAP phenomenon. While I remain open-minded, I also approach the topic with skepticism and intellectual honesty. Below are the major theories that attempt to explain what people have been seeing for generations — along with my own thoughts on each.

I believe we are dealing with two different types of phenomena. One involves structured craft that appear to be under intelligent control (like traditional flying saucers and triangles). The other involves orbs and shape-shifting objects that seem more like a lifeform or energy-based phenomenon than a vehicle. These two categories may have entirely different explanations.
1. The Extraterrestrial Hypothesis (ETH)
This is the most popular and straightforward theory behind UFOs: Some UFOs/UAPs are physical spacecraft from other planets or star systems — meaning alien visitors from another world.
Supporting observations include:
- Objects demonstrating hypersonic speeds without producing sonic booms
- Transmedium travel (USOs) — moving seamlessly from air into water with no loss of speed, such as the Shag Harbour incident
- Maneuvers that appear to defy known physics
- Frequent sightings near nuclear weapons sites and military bases
- Claims of crash retrievals involving non-human craft and biologics
Longtime ufologist Stanton Friedman was one of the strongest public advocates for this theory. More recently, former Air Force intelligence officer David Grusch made headlines claiming the U.S. government is in possession of non-human craft and biologics. I elaborate more on my Extraterrestrial Personal Theories, but for me, this remains the most logical explanation for the structured craft-like vehicles we see reported as the theories behind UFOs. 2. Interdimensional / Ultraterrestrial Hypothesis
This theory suggests that many UAP are not coming from other planets, but from other dimensions or realities — essentially “ultraterrestrials.”
Supporters point to reports of objects that appear to phase in and out of our reality, shape-shift, or seem to respond intelligently to observers even from great distances. Researchers like John Keel and Jacques Vallée have strongly supported this view, arguing the phenomenon behaves more like a control system or paranormal intelligence than simple extraterrestrial visitors.
3. Secret Human Technology
Some UAP could be highly advanced technology developed by the U.S. military or a foreign adversary.
History shows secret aircraft like the Stealth Bomber were kept hidden for nearly two decades. However, I have a hard time believing current human technology could explain shape-shifting objects, extreme acceleration without sonic booms, or seamless air-to-water travel. That said, I do find it plausible that some of our modern technology came from reverse-engineering recovered craft. About 25 years ago, I heard a guest on Jeff Rense’s radio show claim that materials like Kevlar (from alien space suits) and the microprocessor (from a small chip found in a crashed craft’s console) were among the recovered technologies. Whether true or not, it’s an intriguing possibility.
4. Time Travel
A less mainstream theory is that some UFOs are not extraterrestrial, but time travelers from our own future.
This would help explain the strong interest in our nuclear weapons (perhaps trying to prevent self-destruction) and ancient astronaut-like theories. However, it also raises difficult questions about changing the past and unintended consequences — similar to the themes in “Back to the Future” movie series.
My Personal Reasoning on Occupants and Crash Retrievals
I’ve believed UFOs are real for most of my life, and I lean toward the idea that at least some of them represent technology far beyond known human capability. That said, I’m increasingly skeptical that every sighting involves alien occupants. Modern drone technology has shown us how effective remote operation can be. If some of these craft are unmanned, it would mirror how we currently use military drones — for surveillance, probing enemy defenses, and targeting high-value assets from a safe distance.
At the same time, there are numerous reports of people being injured after coming into close proximity with these objects. This raises an interesting question: If these beings (or their technology) are so vastly advanced, why would close encounters sometimes cause harm? Is it an intentional defense mechanism — similar to how a skunk sprays, a rattlesnake warns with its tail, or a porcupine uses its quills? Or is it simply a side effect of the propulsion or energy systems they use, something our biology isn’t equipped to handle, while the operators themselves are protected?
The deeper you dive into this mystery, the more questions arise.
However, if a piloted flying saucer really did crash in Roswell in 1947, I think it’s logical to assume the beings inside were recovered — alive or not. If a species possesses the technology to travel across the stars (or dimensions), they would almost certainly have superior safety systems to protect the crew in the event of a malfunction or crash — just as our fighter jets have ejection seats and our cars are equipped with airbags. It stands to reason that if we lost an aircraft in a remote area, we would move mountains to recover it and bring our people home. Why wouldn’t an advanced civilization do the same?
Final Thoughts
I remain open to multiple possibilities — extraterrestrial, interdimensional, time travel, or even a mix of all three. I’m also very aware that the current “disclosure” movement could include elements of disinformation. If certain groups possess revolutionary technology, they would have strong national security reasons to keep it secret. If UFOs are other worldly crafts could the government be attempting to mislead China and Russia by calling them interdimensional? Have we the United States government had contact and direct communication and if so did we more or less tell them that this body of government is the leaders of the free world.
Ultimately, I believe the universe is far more mysterious and wonderful than we currently understand. Whether these phenomena are physical craft from other worlds, interdimensional beings, or something we haven’t yet conceived — I look forward to watching the truth slowly reveal itself.
