The Roswell UFO Incident
July 1947 – Roswell, New Mexico
The Roswell incident is universally recognized as the event that launched the modern UFO era. It remains the single most famous and controversial UFO case in history.
What Happened
In early July 1947, rancher Mac Brazel discovered large quantities of strange debris scattered across his property. The material was described as extremely lightweight yet incredibly strong, with strange markings resembling hieroglyphics.
The Official Story Reversal
On July 8, 1947, the Roswell Army Air Field issued a press release stating they had recovered a “flying disc.” The next day, the military changed their story, claiming it was only a weather balloon.
The 2007 Deathbed Confession
Lt. Walter Haut, the original Public Information Officer, left a signed affidavit stating the object was extraterrestrial and that bodies were recovered. He confirmed the weather balloon story was a cover-up.
Connection to Area 51
Many believe the Roswell debris and possibly recovered bodies were transported to the secret Groom Lake facility in Nevada, now known as Area 51.
Roswell Today
Every July, Roswell hosts the world-famous UFO Festival. The International UFO Museum and Research Center stands as a permanent tribute to the event and continues to attract visitors from around the world.
